BOX 1 Biographical Materials, 1879-1946
This series contains papers related to various Damrosch family members, chiefly Leopold and Frank Damrosch. It consists of printed articles, manuscript notes, typescript and printed biographies, a poem, and interview transcripts. One item of interest is an autobiographical essay written by Leopold Damrosch as a graduation thesis from his high school at Posen.

BOX 1-2, 8-10 Papers of Leopold Damrosch, 1856-1885
This series consists of correspondence, a several examples of writings, four scores, programs for concerts Damrosch conducted and attended, a scrapbook of clippings, and a few other miscellaneous items. It is quite small, due in part to a fire in 1887 that destroyed many of his papers, including much of his correspondence with Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, Hans von Bülow, and others.

BOX 2-7, 8, 10 Papers of Frank Damrosch and Other Damrosch Family Members, 1836-1969
A large part of the collection consists of the papers of Frank Damrosch and other Damrosch family members. This series includes correspondence, writings, music, financial and legal papers, programs, scrapbooks, iconography, subject files, and papers of the Institute of Musical Art.
Correspondence of Frank Damrosch, 1881-1942
This subseries comprises several hundred letters, with some of the more notable correspondents being Harold Bauer, Andrew Carnegie, Edward Elgar, Percy Grainger, Josef Hofmann, Gustav Mahler, and Sergei Rachmaninov. Many of the letters of Frank Damrosch to his family were destroyed in the 1887 fire. There are, however, a great many letters to his wife Hetty from Europe in 1891. Any letters to or from correspondents who wrote to both Frank Damrosch and other family members are filed together with Frank's correspondence.
