BOX 2-3, 5-6 | Publications, 1859-1991 | ||||||||||||
The Publications series, which encompasses books, clippings, articles, and
promotional materials that date between 1859 and 1991, is organized by the
four formats. Among the books are volumes published by Ted Shawn and Ruth St. Denis, dance manuals, biographies and histories, exhibition catalogs, and conference proceedings. Many of these works contain exquisite reproductions of visual materials related to dance. Two items, including a rare tour guide to India, contain bookplates indicating that they were owned by Denishawn. Five of the books are housed with the Kellinger Dance Collection. The remaining 20 items have been relocated to the reference shelves of the Music Division’s Performing Arts Reading Room (PARR) or can be requested at the PARR circulation desk. The articles include several essays written by distinguished modern dancers and cultural commentators. The newspaper clippings include items about Martha Graham, Ruth St. Denis, and the Stuttgart Ballet. Promotional materials consist of brochures of booking agents, as well as flyers and cards used to advertise performances, workshops, and other dance events. These items focus primarily on Martha Graham, Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, and their dance companies. |
