This subseries includes arrangements that Suesse made for the piano duo Vera Brodsky and Harold Triggs. Brodsky and Triggs performed these two-piano arrangements of popular songs on the WJZ radio show True Ghost Stories from 1935 to 1936. BOX 21, 31-39, 50 Project Files, 1936-1985
This series encompasses Suesse’s produced and unproduced plays and musicals, as well as a television show, concerts, and compositions dating from 1936 to 1985. Items include scripts, notes, lead sheets, lyric sheets, programs, correspondence, clippings, and holograph music. The series contains a significant amount of materials related to The Seven Year Itch (1952), including numerous sketches for Suesse’s incidental music. Other significant productions include, among others, her composition Young Man with a Harp, which Casper Reardon premiered with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1939; Come Play With Me (1959), a musical for which Suesse wrote the music and lyrics; and her concert at Carnegie Hall in 1974. Also included here are souvenir programs from Billy Rose’s revues, for which Suesse composed music during the 1930s and 1940s, such as Aquacade, Casa Mañana, Diamond Horseshoes, and Venus on the Halfshell. These materials lend insight into Suesse’s lesser-known works, including Fly Away Home, Josephine, Length of Our Days, Mister Sycamore, and Nemesis.
