BOX 144-174, 431, 433-434 MAPCASE FOLDER 5 Board Membership Activity, 1951-1996
Stevens had a policy of joining only those boards where he knew he would be an active participant. The approximately 50 organizations represented in this subseries provide evidence of that commitment. There are extensive files for the Academy of Poets, the American Shakespeare Festival and Academy, the Choate School/Choate Rosemary Hall, the Metropolitan Opera Association, the National Book Committee and its successor the National Book Awards, and the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. In most instances Stevens served on these boards in a financial capacity, but in some cases he also provided leadership and administrative support. The National Book Committee/National Book Awards files document the significant role Stevens played in ensuring the continuation of that organization as it navigated a period of financial difficulty.

This subseries consists of agendas and board meeting minutes, audit reports, board books, budgets, correspondence, financial statements, programs, publicity material, and reports.

Arranged alphabetically by organization name and chronologically therein.
