Roll 520 to Roll 523. New
Gospel Light Music Store (Interior and Exterior) For 37 years the New
Gospel Light Music Store stood at the center of Philadelphia's vibrant
gospel community, serving both nonprofessional singers and such
nationally known local artists as the Ward Singers, the Davis Sisters,
the Imperials, the Stars of Faith, the Angelics and the Dixie
Hummingbirds. The New Gospel Light Music Store opened its doors in 1952,
selling sheet music and gospel records to the city that proudly
proclaimed itself the "Gospel City of the World." Thirty-seven years
later, victim to declining sales and neighborhood gentrification, the
city's only gospel store was forced out of business. July 22,
