Scope and Content Note

The papers of Ralph Waldo Christie (1893-1987) span the years 1941-1945 and consist primarily of Christie's official correspondence while serving as commander of submarine squadron five, 1941-1942, and as commander of submarines, Southwest Pacific force, seventh fleet, 1943-1945. The correspondence is arranged chronologically. Also included are correspondence, news clippings, and an essay concerning Christie's efforts to have a medal of honor awarded to Samuel David Dealey, the commander of the submarine Harder. The submarine and its commander were lost in action in 1944.

Provenance

The papers of Ralph Waldo Christie, admiral and submarine commander, were deposited in the Library of Congress by the Naval Historical Foundation in 1984. The deposit was converted to a gift in 1998.

Processing History

The papers of Ralph Waldo Christie were arranged and described in 1997 and the finding aid revised in 2007.
