Frank Lloyd Wright Papers
Scope and Content Note
The papers of Frank Lloyd Wright (1857-1959) span the years 1894-1958 and consist of correspondence, speeches and articles, excerpts from writings by Wright, printed matter, and miscellaneous material. The collection contains letters from Wright to his friend, William R. Heath, in which Wright complains of complications arising from his divorce in 1927 and its effect upon his relationship with his daughter, Iovanna Lloyd Wright, and her mother, Olga Ivanovna, whom he later married. The remaining correspondence concerns the publication of Frank Lloyd Wright on Architecture: Selected Writings, 1894-1940 , edited by Frederick Albert Gutheim, architectural historian and city planner, and consists primarily of letters from 1940 to 1941 from Wright, Gutheim, and the publisher, Duell, Sloan & Pearce of New York, regarding the work's publication.
The bulk of the collection is composed of excerpts from writings by Wright and copies of speeches and articles used by Gutheim. A miscellany file contains a draft of a card designed by Wright in 1928 announcing his marriage to Olga Ivanovna.
