Biographical note
Gwilym Davies (born 1946) is a collector of folk songs from Hampshire, England. He has recorded folk music in Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Devon, the United States and elsewhere and has deposited recordings with the British Library Sound Archive and the Library of Congress.

Abstract
Field recordings of songs and tales from Virginia, West Virginia, and New York State (Appalachian and Adirondack Mountains) made by Gwilym Davies in 1997 and 1998. Arrangement
The Gwilym Davies Appalachian and Adirondack Mountains collection was recorded onto DAT tapes, each one containing multiple recording sessions or events. The DATS were digitized, and an audio file was created for each event. The finding aid arrangement reflects the events in chronological order. The digital id numbering, C742-69 through C742-77, are identifiers provided by the donor and are how the files are named. Descriptions, performer and song lists, and notes about performances used in the finding aid come directly from the donor's documentation.
