Works by American Sculptors
Scope and Content Note
These materials include miscellaneous documentation of work of over 400 sculptors, the bulk of whom were active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The material covers a broad range of forms and styles including funerary and civic monuments, statues, figurines, animal groups, medals, and bas-reliefs. Some of the works illustrated are by lesser known sculptors through images copyrighted by the National Sculpture Society and by the Art Academy of Cincinnati. There are also photographs taken by H.S. Crocker & Co. and copyrighted by the Panama-Pacific Exposition Co. depicting installation of sculpture for the Exposition. While predominantly American sculptors, a number of international sculptors are also represented primarily with sculptures housed in American museums. Some well-represented sculptors in this collection include: Aitken, Barthé, Bartlett, Borglum, Calder, Dallin, Donoghue, Eberle, Flanagan, Fraser, French, Frishmuth, Grafly, Hartley, Hoffman, Jennewein, MacMonnies, MacNeil, Manship, Mayer, Mears, Proctor, Putnam, Ream, Ruckstuhl, Saint-Gaudens, Schweizer, Scudder, Troubetzkoy, Weinman, and Winans.
