Scope and Content Note

The George Fayer collection includes portraits of military and political leaders, musicians, scholars, public officials, celebrities and delegates to the United Nations. It also includes notables such as Dean Acheson, Sara Churchill, Charles de Gaulle, Thomas Dewey, Anthony Eden, Jascha Heifetz, John Maynard Keynes, Louis Krasner, Vivian Leigh, Archibald MacLeish, John Pierpont Morgan, Herbert Putnam, Edward R. Stettinius, Arturo Toscanini, Wendell Willkie, among others.

Biographical Note

George Fayer was an English portrait photographer who served as the official photographer of the League of Nations. Born June 8, 1892 in Budapest, Hungary. Died Nov. 5, 1950 in Cannes, France.

Abstract

The photographs depict notable people such as diplomats, military and political leaders, musicians and celebrities, both American and foreign.

Arrangement

The collection is organized into groups called LOTs. LOT 2407 and LOT 11824 are arranged alphabetically, by surname.

  1. LOT 2407 (F): Portraits of diplomats, industrialists and other notable people
  2. LOT 2409 (F): Portraits of the chairmen of delegations to the United Nations, 1947
  3. LOT 2465 (F): Portraits of individuals, representing 35 nations, associated with the International bank for reconstruction
  4. LOT 11824 (H): Studio portraits of notable public figures.
